The Murphy's Cat Laughs Comedy Festival, which takes place every June Bank Holiday weekend is now firmly established as one of the world's leading comedy events. For five days each year, enthusiastic audiences from Ireland and around the world crowd over 12 venues in Kilkenny for what has become known as the "wit weekend".

Kilkenny Arts Festival

The rich heritage of the beautiful medieval city of Kilkenny, with its narrow streets and beautiful historic venues, lends a special atmosphere to this unique festival held anually in August. The Kilkenny Festival of Racing

During this three day National Hunt meeting, all eyes will be on what is known as the most scenic racecourse in Ireland Gowran Park, as the finest thoroughbreds take to the turf. The racecourse is approximately .5 of a mile outside Gowran village on the Dublin - Waterford road. Gowran is 8 miles from Kilkenny and 80 miles from Dublin. Features of the racing calendar include the Thyesetes Chase and the Kilkenny Racing Festival takes place on the 11th, 12th 13th October.

The Kilkenny Beer Karnivale which is organised in conjunction with the racing festival included a series of music events featuring Latin, Funk, Jazz, Salsa and Soul entertainment. Highlights included Pucho & his Latin Soul Brothers, The Night in Havana Orchestra, Cantaloupe, Fruitcake and the Latin Soul Salsa Band.

The Cuisine De France Thyestes Chase in 2001 was won by Bob Treacy, who previously won the event in 1999.

Kilkenny Rhythm 'n Roots Festival

This festival highlights the best in country music, both Irish and internationally.. Venues include the Watergate Theatre, The Grainstore, The Malthouse, The Newpark Hotel and The Village Inn. This annual festival in Kilkenny has dropped the country from the title and broadened it's line up considerably. The fourth annual Carlsberg Kilkenny Rhythm n' Roots Weekend will take place in venues throughout Kilkenny on the May bank holiday weekend, from Friday 4th May through to Monday 7th May. Acts in clude: Chris Thomas King, Ryan Adams, Sean Keane, Paul Burch and his Nashville Friends, Kristi Rose & her Nashville Gang to mention a few.
